================= Many are aware that DA is undergoing some changes with it's mandatory switch to Eclipse this May. Being a user of the site since November 21, 2014, I, like many others, feel a great connection with it's community and the site's features (especially the Llamas
). DA has grown on us rather well, which serves as a reflection of the developer's talent and their desire to listen to user feedback. Because of the familiarity, I feel that in throwing away some of the site's most treasured features will do more harm than good, ripping away an old friend for favor of something new, fresh, and 'edgy'.

Keeping rants to a minimum...
As a person who loves change and creativity, nothing excites me more than DA getting a makeover, anticipating what the great minds of 2020 can conjure up to give the site better functionality, ease of use, and most importantly the means to keep the community connected! (No better place, it's an art site, after all!) I feel that responses to the Eclipse layout has left mostly (not all) a sour taste in the mouths of both short and long term users, begging for the potential of creative standards that we obviously had and still have. Being a long-time user who loves DA, I have a GREAT passion to be a voice on the matter with the ultimate desire to enlighten and hopefully steer this mad car of change into a more desirable direction.
Navigation and community are some of the top features complained about in Eclipse. Personally experiencing some crashes and difficulty swimming through the new layout, I can relate, but cannot see the site at ultimate fault for it's potential bugs (and my learning curve). Still, after some time spent, I can see why so many are in protest of something that originally wasn't broken. If we had our way maintaining the classic layout, I would love the developers to polish up what already exists because it works rather well! Of course, from their perspective, if programming and resource allocation is what demanded such a change, then I can accept that, but not at risk of alienating the user.
As there are many things that will be left out of Eclipse and some changed, journal posts by other users (at the bottom of this post) should clear up some questions, as I cannot list them all by myself. 
Of course, I cannot be completely against Eclipse, for it has some attractive features, like customizable banners and backgrounds for one's profile page (and how neat it looks when scrolling), a 'dark mode' by default to save eye strain, a re-inspired framework to give the site's art a bit more flavor and professionalism, to name a few. Adopting these would be quite the treat, as some users have already designed their own to demonstrate what we actually want and use!For example, Fairloke took the liberty of making some designs that perfectly blend Eclipse and Classic features in a way that are just visually stunning!

Suggestions regarding the Core members' benefits:
Core members should have the ability to customize their background image or colors.
In DA's defense, there are many conversations and happenings in their meetings that the general public doesn't see. For all I know, there could be some who have fought tooth-and-nail to maintain Classic for as long as possible, if not indefinitely. For those, my hat is off to you! DA has been fantastic to this day, and should serve as testament to that goodness.
The movement I wish to avoid is a backlash. Many industries (including movie, comic, and games) have faced these and some are still paying for them. Buyer control and validation of needs are crucial for company growth; product choice tailored to the buyer and the validation that those needs are important. Since the development of Eclipse takes that validity away in favor of company discretion, users are left out of the loop, making due with whatever is given. Successful companies NEED this feedback and inclusion when developing products to ensure their customer-base even WANTS to buy what they make, or...*gulp* go broke.
An example of corporate backlash was seen with the recent release of Sonic the Hedgehog. Concept designs were rejected in droves, not because of the labor, effort, or release date, but in how it didn't serve homage to the original spirit that originally attracted it's fan-base.

See what happens when consumer needs are acknowledged and respected? The film grossed record box office numbers versus being stubborn. If the developers recognize the artist's needs for DeviantArt like the producers did for Sonic, just think of how epic Eclipse could be! Quite possibly could be the leading art site on the net of all time! (Well, we can dream, right?)

A: Not many are needed, seeing as it's just a matter of DeviantArt developers listening to their users by maintaining some Classic features.
The best I got: Hold a DeviantArt-wide contest to develop the best ideas for a new layout.-This involves the community with a super fun project just like holiday themed submissions with it's own category (like user interface)
and gives DA FREE feedback/ideas on beneficial features!
-Making history with a Renaissance! What better place for developers to fish for free creativity than their own art-themed website??
-Winners are acknowledged on the home page and given free core memberships, Llamas, gift cards (or whatever is deemed appropriate)
Have an official DA post with polls collecting user feedback-The desire is to have the customer-base enjoy the playground; polls and feedback zero-in on what they want to see and are easy to fill out
This includes the developers, publicly showing their care and relationship for the website and it's users ======================================
In summation, I wish to have Eclipse running strong, but not abandoning aspects of Classic we all have grown to love and need. I do not wish protest, backlash, or any kind of negative experience for any user or the site's developers. All I wanna do is post some gnarly drawings, play in the comment section, all while using an intuitive interface... and maybe get a Llama or two..

Deviantart Eclipse is a massive step back for this website. It reduces functionality. It is ridden with bugs. It is slow to use. The sheer amount of complaints about this update have shown that the majority of users do not find this to be an improvement. The website in it's current form is infinitely superior to Eclipse. The notifications page is easy to navigate. You can drag and drop to fave. Profiles look ordered.
On eclipse notifications are all the place, you have to scroll down endlessly to track conversations. (They don't just stack up the way they used to)
Profiles have been utterly ruined. Most of the existing widgets seem forced in. To actually make the profile look half-good you have to delete most old widgets. It also makes everyone's pages look too similar. Before there was more customization and variety.

Well, there have been many many many journals posted in the past weeks regarding Eclipse. I think it's safe to say lots of people have gone mental, and the site has sort of imploded with freak outs. I realised I haven't actually openly talked about Eclipse yet. I made a poll to see if you guys liked it, but that's about it.

What's wrong with Eclipse...can we fix it?Hey guys
I'm updating this journal to reflect how I'm feeling today. I go up and down with Eclipse, sometimes I feel hopeful and better, other times, I feel like the majority of issues we are bringing up are not being responded to or we are being told will not be addressed...
While Eclipse is certainly looking a lot better than it was a couple of months ago, there are still some major issues (to me) that need to be addressed, and I'm sure it's the same for you guys!
Let me make something clear, starting petitions and debates about how DA should abolish Eclipse or have 2 versions of the website is an absolute waste of your time and energy. Instead, please try focusing your energy on what I'm about to explain.
Feature requests are only going to be put in place if a large number of people request them. This is logical, there's only so much Staff members can do in the short amount of time they have left before they roll out Eclipse for good, and as such they have to prioriti

First, I want to thank all of you who wished me a happy birthday! It totally was!

I haven't been posting lately because of a recent move to a new house, getting adjusted to a new environment and just takin a break. Also, was hella sick the past few days, but made a speedy recovery! Unfortunately, for time constraints, there's a good possibility that I won't continue my comic Friendship Isnt Canon. It was a fun thought, but I'll leave some of the longer comics to other talented artists on DA. Thank you all for your support! Doesnt mean that I wont draw comics! Im just focusing my time on shorts and quickies. Also, I wanna start doing more fan art of other cartoons. For some reason, I'm lovin Callie Briggs from Swat Kats...
Anyway, thank you all again for your wishes! Love you all!

Lost to another one...

So I decided to ask this girl that works close to me to be friends, show her some kindness, as she was recently cheated upon by her boyfriend. She was pretty crushed. Who wouldn't be, right? She's pretty damn cute too, like super cute.
We've been hanging out for about a month, and things were gettin pretty close rather fast, things that boyfriends and girlfriends do together... Anyway, she gets word from a friend that the cheating boyfriend tried to commit suicide and was rushed the hospital. He was found with a lame note in poem form that pretty much slammed her for being such a horrible person and how its her fault. (not even close to true)
The guy reluctantly and half-assed apologized for what he did, especially about the lame note, stil trying to pass blame onto her. This didnt make her very happy. She wanted to see if his drinking had stopped, only to find that he was stashing massive amounts of hard drugs and alcohol, lying that he had any at all.
She was crushed by this and now the dude is in rehab gettin clean.
The point of this is he:
-had sex multiple times with another woman
-lied about drug habits
-tried to commit suicide
-lied on multiple occasions
... and I'm the one who lost the girl! Yeah you guessed it, she took him back. Its not like a 5-10 year solid commitment relationship they had going, only a years worth, but damn, If I ever lied once let alone THINK about cheating, I'd be dumped and forgotten so hard and fast, no second thought about being given that kind of forgiveness...
Yeah, I get it that I deserve better than that, it just hurts because this isnt the first time its happened.
So, what would YOU do if your GF/BF cheated on you? Would you take them back in or tell them to hit the road?
